Adult Leads

Adult Leads are adult volunteers who feel called to accompany and support young people (and parents of teens within Parent Cor) in their faith journey. Key components of our pastoral approach are leading with authenticity, integrity, and appropriate vulnerability. Adult Leads minister by relating their own experiences, both as teens themselves and throughout their lives, to the youth they walk with. This allows young people to see how their own faith can indeed pertain to their present experiences by seeing parallels between their experiences and those of the Adult Leads. We seek to understand and listen, reserving judgment and/or being prescriptive. Adult Leads guide with love, gentleness, wisdom, and patience, trusting in the Holy Spirit to stir their hearts. We are called to simply plant seeds. Adult Leads have the role providing opportunities for the youth, and their families to encounter the living Christ, through us, and through the programming we help to facilitate.

What is Cor?

"Cor" is St. Bede's Youth Ministry program, which begins in 7th grade and goes through 12th grade.
The name “Cor” comes from the Latin word meaning “heart”. At the cor of our faith is the Sacred Heart of Jesus - the love of God. It is God’s love alone that can satisfy our restless hearts and it is out of His heart that we were all created. Cor is a place where young people are able to center themselves amidst the busyness of their academic and extracurricular lives, to learn to listen to God’s voice which can only be heard in the silence of the heart. At Cor, teens can grow deeply by looking within and learning how to love each other as Christ loves them. They do this through fellowship, community building, discussion and conversation, prayer, service, activities, retreats, and Sacraments.

  • Cor 1.0 is grades 7-8 and meets every 1st and 3rd Thursday after from 6:30-8:15pm in the Teen Room.
  • Cor 2.0 is grades 9-12 and meets every Sunday after the 5:30pm Teen Mass from 6:30-8:15pm in the Teen Room.
  • Parent Cor meets once a month on Sundays, concurrent with Cor 2.0, in the John XXIII Room.
  • Confirmation is part of Cor 2.0 and meets once a month on various weekdays. As a Confirmation Catechist, you and your partner catechist would decide which weekday you're free and schedule your monthly sessions together in advance.

Cor 1.0 and Cor 2.0 Nights include: food, games and activities, powerful testimonies, small and large group discussions, panels of speakers, movie nights, worship music, prayer, and more. Every other Cor 2.0 Night will be a topic/issue night or a movie/game night.

Parent Cor Nights include food, check-ins, topic presentation, small group discussions, and prayer, covering subjects pertinent to parents of teens, helping them to grow in their faith and in helping form the faith of their children.

Confirmation Sessions involve opening prayer, check-ins with your teen candidates, presenting the session topic (catechesis) along with personal testimony, small group activities and discussions, reflection assignments for the following session, and closing prayer. The curriculum is given to you at the beginning of the year to review. Feel free to stay as close to the agenda as you feel comfortable given your range of experience and expertise with the topic and with being a catechist.

Retreats and Conferences are another place where Adult Leads provide crucial ministry. Besides helping to chaperone these overnight and off-site events, Adult Leads help to faciliate activities, small group discussions, share testimonies, and develop personal connection with youth. Retreats and conferences often provide opportunities for teens to have really powerful conversions of faith and deepened spiritual experiences. Adult Leads help to make that possible by attending and helping to run our retreats, and by chaperoning our conferences (such as City of Saints and Youth Day).
