We are so pleased that the mandatory evacuation order has been lifted for all of La Cañada Flintridge (although a few areas remain under evacuation “warnings” - see below). We are also pleased that Southern California Edison (SCE) has restored power in many areas.
However, the threat from this wind and fire event is far from over. Winds are forecasted to increase in the coming days, and fire personnel are warning us that dangerous fire weather continues. Moreover, SCE has not ruled out another round “Public Safety Power Shutoff” outages.
So, I urge you to remain safe and vigilant, and the information below should assist you in these efforts. And once again, on behalf of the City, I want to thank everyone who is working around the clock to keep our community safe.
Evacuation Order Status:
Starlight Crest, Crown, and JPL Zones downgraded to evacuation warning only.
All other zones in La Canada Flintridge are fully lifted.
Residents who are returning to their homes, please note the following:
There are areas in the City that are still without power.
When driving through the community, please be extremely careful of debris on the road. Please stay clear of any downed power lines or wires.
Remember, if you come to an intersection without power, please treat it as an all-way stop.
FEMA Representatives in LCF:
FEMA officials will be present at La Cañada Flintridge Library at 4545 N. Oakwood Ave. in La Cañada Flintridge between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday, 1/12/25, and Monday, 1/13/25, to assist residents impacted by the wildfires. The phone number is 818-790-3330.
Water Status:
Per the water companies, there are currently no concerns over the quality of water for the community. Please reach out to your water company with any questions you may have.
Commercial and Residential Trash Services:
Due to previous evacuation orders, waste haulers could not service the area earlier in the week. Now that the orders have been lifted, service will resume on Monday. Please ensure your bins are out on Monday, regardless of your regular pickup day.
At the City's request, the haulers will increase services next week to catch up and will also provide extra debris pickup for green waste. NASA, Republic, and Athens will pick up unbagged green waste if left at the curb. They will not pick up bulking debris such as tree branches/stumps/etc. Street sweeping will resume on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Thank you for being so patient!
Power Outage:
Southern California Edison (SCE) has informed the City that crews are working on restoring full power to the City. As of 3 p.m. on January 11, 2025, 45,450 customers remain without power, while service has been restored to over 500,000 customers since the wind event began. Although this progress is encouraging, we acknowledge the hardships faced by those displaced by the fires and customers still without power. Comprehensive assessments are now underway as conditions allow. On January 10, 85% of circuits outside burn areas were assessed where it was safe to do so, helping to determine the extent of damage and prioritize repair efforts. Repairs are then carried out based on conditions, with restoration times varying depending on the severity of the damage. As repairs are completed, power is first restored to essential services and facilities before being extended to as many customers as safely possible. So far, 2,700 feet of service conductor have been replaced. However, strong winds continue to cause widespread damage, leading to additional outages and Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS). As of 4:30 p.m. today, approximately 27,100 customers are experiencing service interruptions due to PSPS. Customers affected by the Los Angeles fires can find available resources here.
For the most up-to-date information, visit SCE's website at http://sce.com/outage-center or call their customer services number at 1 (800) 655-4555.
Citywide Debris Cleanup Underway:
City crews are working tirelessly to remove fallen trees and debris from roadways across the community. With almost every single street needing attention, the scope of this cleanup is massive. Work will continue over the next few days and into mid-next week to ensure our roads are safe and clear.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work as quickly as possible. Please drive carefully and stay alert for crews in your area. Your safety—and theirs—is our top priority!
Weather Conditions:
Although the weather conditions are favorable at the moment. There are new Red Flag and Wind Warnings set to reach the LCF area this weekend into early next week. Please remember with the Eaton Fire still being an active fire, there remains a threat to La Cañada Flintridge.
Air quality is extremely poor, so take precautions to protect your health as much as you can.
Businesses in the City:
Local businesses are starting to return and begin their operations. This will take time and we ask everyone to support our local businesses until they return to normal operation.
Businesses are allowed to operate normally if they are not in the mandatory evacuation area.
